Events held at Oak Heights School in Hounslow

The first event which would be taking place on Monday 17th November is held by the year 9 students called The Ultimate Skills Challenge. Hosts are allocated to the event and will take charge everything is organised well and played fairly. Within this event students who are taking part will be awarded a treat based on who can do the most headers without the ball dropping. Students will be giving a small donation to be participating.

The second event which is hosted by year 9 girls is named Trick or Treat where they have many treats and tricks within a box full of confetti and other materials to hide the objects. The participants will get a specific time limit to keep their hand in and get a treat. Another event held by the year 9 girls is called Pin the Eye Patch. All these events are held to raise money for charity.

Following onto Tuesday events which will be held by Miss Gill where girls and boys are welcome to donate to get a henna design done on one hand and use the money made as a donation. Other girls within the year 9 class will also contribute to creating the designs. Card games will also be held with the year 11 boys. To compete with one another they will contribute a donation in order to help fund-raise.

During this week we had year 11 students holding a raffle where all students are able to by a raffle. The winner would not receive any homework for a whole week! Runner ups will also receive prizes up to 3rd place.

To sum up the week we as a school are also holding an auction where the children are able to bring in any unwanted items which they do not need and sell at school. All the money would then also be put towards the charity.

This is the overall look of the events which are being held in the following week. We are all excited to see how much money we are able to raise as we had a great success during Remembrance Day fund raising! Fund raising also helps the children know the importance of how important giving is to the community and how many lives are affected by every small donation! Oak Heights school in Hounslow is now offering music lessons

Welcome back! We hope you all had a nice break during the half term. Oak heights are now in the second half term before we all break up for Christmas! As we are approaching Christmas, the time has come when the school goes out for the day for our annual ice skating trip at the National History Museum. Every year towards Christmas the students are taken out on a one day school trip to the National History Museum ending the day by going onto the ice skating ring! This is an exciting outing for the Year 7's especially as it is the first trip they will be participating in with Oak Heights School.
As you may know the new Music classes have now begun. Classes are offered to year 7 & 8's only to start off the classes to assess progress .These lessons are now organised to be every Thursday's once a week. The students will be taught by professional tutors alongside using professional equipment. As a small school, we feel very privileged to be recognised as being members of the Federation of Music. Music classes will be very intriguing to assess as we may have the chance to discover many talents within the students! Oak heights already known as being very academically strong will also be known to be very creative and talented through music classes.
Having the classing proceeding brings us closer to develop our own Christmas music band. Classes as such encouraged students to be more creative and willing to be more active and not to be just wasting energy playing video games!
Previously Oak Heights dedicated a week on E-Safety learning before the half term in order to educate them the risk of being safe using social networks and being involved with the media. As part of Student Safe Guard month, we are now approaching Anti-Bullying week. We take bullying very seriously at Oak Heights School and believe every student should feel safe and happy coming and studying with us. Bullying is not tolerated. Poetically speaking is one of the forms we believe the students are able to express what they feel about bullying and how they would feel if they were bullied. Educating children about bullying is very important as we believe that children should know and understand how to overcome bullies and why it is not acceptable to be bullying others yourself.
Mrs Sandhu will be carrying out different workshops related to Anti-Bullying week in order to educate the students and acknowledge them about the affect bullying may have on individuals.
We believe we have progressed well coming back to school after half term and have many exciting events taking place before we break up for Christmas holidays. Overall this half term should be very exciting and productive for the school and students who are participating within.

Oak Heights Independent School in Hounslow has its own Bake Off competition!

As part of our Term 1 creative curriculum development we organised a cupcake baking competition which had most of the students participating! All students brought in their own designed cakes which were judged by the teachers and winners were chosen! The competition was open for all the students in the school. Being creative allows the child to expand their thinking and creativity skills. The judgement criteria were based on things such as taste, texture, appearance and creativity. Students then went on to develop their entrepreneurial skills by selling on any remaining cupcakes to the school.
Additional curriculum activities will be starting after half term which begins on Friday 24th October 2014 for one week. Extra music Classes will commence every Thursday for students in our lower years. We are very lucky to be working alongside Hounslow Music Service and becoming members of the Federation of Music. This will allow students to get involved with music and provide them with the opportunity to pursue music as a career or part time hobby in the future. Using professional equipment they will be taught how to play each specific piece by fully qualified and experienced tutors. These new music sessions will embrace the children’s creative sides and encourage them to maintain a healthy balance between academic and creative lessons.
We aim to develop our very own Oak Heights Band by the end of the academic year! This will be a wonderful way for the students to practice their skills and gain feedback.
This week Oak Heights has also been touching upon the more serious subject of E-safety. In response to the recent media interest in e-safety and children we felt it was our duty to ensure that all students know how to use the internet responsibly. In order to encapsulate the many facets of e-safety our General Studies teacher Mrs Sandhu carried out a three days of work shops across the year groups. These consisted of role plays, poetry, and quizzes which were then presented in an assembly involving the whole school. Many areas were touched on and parents were also provided with a summary of how best to monitor their children’s safety online.
The feedback was brilliant and many of the children (and staff) said they felt a lot more educated about the rules and regulations of internet usage. Most importantly they said that they felt a lot more safe knowing how to deal with uncomfortable situations online whether accessing through a mobile device or on a desktop computer.
Our first Parents Day for this academic year will take place this week. This will give teachers and parents a chance to discuss the progress of their child and for some it will also be a chance to meet for the first time if they have only just joined Oak Heights this academic year! Sixth Form and college placements will also be discussed with parents of year eleven students in preparation for the application process after their impending GCSE examinations in summer 2015. This will be a great day, in which we get to see all of the hard work that our teachers and pupils put in throughout the term, and bring it to the forefront! I would also like to thank in advance all of our student Volunteers that are getting involved and helping out! This encapsulates the great team spirit that represents Oak Heights.

Oak Heights school term-1-2014

Oak Heights School would like to wish a warm welcome to all of our new students and a welcome back from the summer break to all of our former students. We hope that you have all settled in nicely this week and that you are ready for the term ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to request that all parents ensure that student contact details are up to date on our system. It is also important that we have additional contact numbers in the event of an emergency. If you wish to update any primary contact numbers and postal/email addresses I can be contacted through the contact details below between 8-4pm.
This term we will be electing our new Head Boy and Head Girl for the school and re electing our student council members. All new students will also be informed of their allocated "House" for our House Points system which has been very successful over the past academic year.
As usual there will be a series of local trips throughout the year and it would be great to hear some suggestions from students on preferred locations.
Work experience for year 11 students is due to start for one week. This date may vary depending on each pupils placement, however all students will be updated within the next week.

Oak Heights school in Hounslow has started a tuition centre in the evening

It is my pleasure to write this congratulatory letter to all of our year 11 students for their outstanding Further Maths Level 2 and Science GCSE results. Results release day is often very nerve wracking as I am sure you are well aware, however, the results achieved today have clearly reflected the hard work of our students coupled with the support of yourselves and our outstanding teachers at Oak Heights School.
GCSE examinations are now tougher than ever before and its important that students work early to avoid disaapointment. Oak Heights school in Hounslow has now started a tuition centre in the evening which will support students in Maths, English and Sciences as well as History. Our English teacher, a graduate from Oxford University will be leading the lessons at Oak Heights School. Support lessons are free to those students at Oak Heights who require it but will be chargable at a small fee to those who are from other nearby schools.
Including our 4 year 11 students who that sat their Maths GCSE exams early last summer, we have now set a very high standard within our school, with 5 A*'s , 8 A's and 1 B&C grade in maths GCSE. We would also like to congratulate a special student from year 11 who achieved 7 A* and 5A's in her GCSE's. Well Done !
I ask that you continue to work with us and support your child with their studying as you have done so far, in order for us to keep these outstanding grades consistent throughout all subjects.
I would like to remind you that due to changes with the DFE there will no longer be any early sittings for GCSE exams. All GCSE exams will be sat in Year 11 as linear examinations and retakes can only now take place in Maths and English during the November series.
Again, well done for all of your hard work! I look forward to seeing the same effort throughout the academic year not only from our year 11s but from all other year groups as well!
All internal exam results including end of term 1 results will be displayed on the school window and will be discussed during the next parent day which will be held in September / October. The date and times are yet to be confirmed.

Oak Heights school closed for the summer break and will resume on the 10th September 2014

Oak Heights school and the tuition centre in hounslow is now closed for the summer break. The school will resume on the 10th September 2014, usual time from 9am to 345pm.
In the new academic term, Oak Heights school will branch out in offering tuition lessons in Hounslow and will be named treetop tuition. It will also be known as Oak Heights tuition centre.
Oak Heights tuition centre will be offering tuition lessons in Maths, English and Science and GCSE and A level standard. It will be taught by highly skilled teachers and tutors in classes no more than 6. Schemes of works will be created specifically tailored for the tuition lessons which will be handed out to the students prior to the lesson itself. Regular homework will be set and detentions will be given out if the homework is not complete. During the year each child will need to sit consultations with senior members of staff. During these consultations pupils will be reviewing their progress and performance. Homework timetables are extremely important for pupils wishing to organise their time properly. With a homework timetable, each student will effectively be able to plan and define his or her study time and free time accordingly. Each child is expected to produce a homework study timetable within six weeks from the start of term. This timetable should accommodate all subjects that have homework attached. If pupils have problems completing their homework, or are returning poorly performed work, they will be expected to submit their timetable for validation. General problems will also be discussed during these sessions. The sessions will offer children a source of counselling should there be a need.
The notice board will list appointment times for children to attend their consultation sessions. All pupils should observe the notice boards regularly and respond to any instructions.
The tuition centre building is also approved by OFSTED, which meets health and safety standards, fire regulations at the building are met. Being in a building that is secure, safe and that it meets standards gives parents the confidence that their children are in a safe environment. Furthermore all of our staff are CRB, list 99 checked.
Oak Heights school is located in Hounslow near the high street. A prime location where public transport is easily accessible. The school is dedicated to fully understanding the national curriculum in order for the teaching to be suited exactly to the necessary examination requirements. Teachers have been trained to cover all aspects of the theoretical knowledge necessary to cope with examination requirements. The way in which the core content of syllabuses is conveyed is in such a manner as to stimulate questioning minds and encourage independent thought so that practical and common sense is not forgotten.

Oak Heights School and exam centre - Summer term

Arguably one of Hounslow’s best schools, Oak Heights school provides students from the age of 11-16 to experience the Oak Heights innovative teaching approaches in order to instil inspiration in the aspiring minds of students. The teachers employ a passionate, enthusiastic and encouraging attitude, which is demonstrated through excellent exam results. We at Oak Heights like to motivate our students to realize their own potential, so the students can believe in their own capabilities and build on their confidence, which will help them overcome any future challenges they come across.
The Exam Centre in Hounslow provides private study students or students who are retaking a chance to do their exams at our centre. We offer practical exam sessions in GCSE and A levels also called EMPA's at our London based centre for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This gives the students a chance to familiarize themselves with the laboratory and equipment. The next practical sessions will be available in September 2014, dates are yet to be confirmed. Entries for the June/July GCSE’s and GCE examinations will commence in September 2014, we cover AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and WJEC Welsh examining boards. Science week was a hit with the students last week. They covered a vast range of topics, including Photosynthesis, Energy from Fuels, Pendulums, Stretching, Resistance and Titration. The year 8’s did a flame test and the year 7’s did a presentation on their Volcano Projects, where they had to make a volcano and show how chemical reactions work.
As part of the controlled assessments and examinations for the Year 11 History GCSE, we arranged a compulsory trip for the Year 10 students to visit the Imperial War Museum to view the Holocaust Exhibition next term. This term we took the year 10 students to the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington. The students gained a lot of knowledge whilst absorbing in the culture of the museum in future preparation for their history-controlled assessments.
Work experience for the year 11 students will be taking place on 22nd September – 26th September 2014. After discussing the types of placements they would like to do with Patricia King, our Work Experience Officer is working on getting the required placements for the students. This is a great opportunity for the students who are looking forward to doing their work placements and to get a feel of what the working life is all about.
